CapitaLand India Trust to acquire Chennai site and develop its third data center in India

by Andrea Zander

CapitaLand India Trust Management Pte. Ltd., the trustee-manager of CapitaLand India Trust (CLINT), has acquired a 4.01-acre freehold site in Ambattur, Chennai, for S$14.1 million ($10.4 million) to develop its third data center in India.

CLINT will invest an estimated total amount of S$338.8 million ($250.1 million) to acquire the site and develop a state-of-the-art data center in phases over the next four to five years. The data center will have a power capacity of 55 megawatts (MW) to host customers such as global technology giants and cloud service providers, as well as large domestic enterprise clients. The acquisition of the site is expected to be completed by December 2022. The data center is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.

With this latest acquisition, CLINT will have a presence in India’s key data center markets – Navi Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai — and is also planning to develop a fourth data center in Bangalore.
