Brookfield nears $10b for opportunistic real estate fund

Toronto-based alternative asset manager Brookfield Asset Management is just shy of reaching the $10 billion mark after raising $9.046 billion for its latest opportunistic real estate fund, Brookfield Strategic Real Estate Partners III, according to a filing with the SEC. The firm did not comment on its fundraising efforts.

Brookfield Strategic Real Estate Partners III is a global real estate fund. The fund’s predecessor, Brookfield Strategic Real Estate Partners II, held a $9 billion final close in 2016. The first fund in the series, Brookfield Strategic Real Estate Partners I, raised $4.4 billion and closed in 2013.

The fund series invests in real estate primarily in North America, Europe, Brazil and Australia.
