BridgeHousing, AvalonBay Communities JV to build 1,100-home Balboa Reservoir development

by Andrea Zander

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the development agreement for a 1,100-home project at the Balboa Reservoir site on Ocean Avenue.

The joint venture, Reservoir Community Partners, includes Avalon Bay, Bridge Housing, Habitat for Humanity of Greater San Francisco, Mission Housing Corp., and Pacific Union Development Co.

The property now is used as a parking lot for City College of San Francisco students.

The project includes 1,100 new homes, with 50 percent dedicated for affordable homes for families and essential workers, four acres of public open space, a 100-seat childcare center with 50 percent of the seats reserved for children of low-income families, and a community meeting space. Situated next to City College, it will include 150 affordable educator units to be prioritized for City College faculty and staff housing.
