Brandeis University selects permanent CIO for endowment fund

Tarek Saghir has been promoted to the permanent position of CIO at Brandeis University, moving up from the interim CIO role he held from March 2022 to February 2023.

He joined the university as director of investments in January 2021, leading investments across private and public asset classes on behalf of the Brandeis University endowment.

The Brandeis University Endowment Fund investment objective is to maximize risk-adjusted returns over a long-term horizon. The fund intends to achieve this objective by investing in multiple asset classes, including real estate, energy, credit, equities, hedge funds and fixed income.

As of June 2022, the endowment was valued at approximately $1.2 billion. For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022, the endowment generated an annual return of -2.9 percent. During the past 10 years, the office has achieved annualized returns of +8.7 percent.
