Apple to invest $11b in new assets

by Andrea Zander

Apple has plans to invest $1 billion in a new campus in Austin, its third in the city, and it invest $10 billion in U.S. data centers over the next five years, including $4.5 billion this year and next.

Along with the 6,200 employees that Apple already has in the city, its new 133-acre development is expected to make it the largest private employer in Austin. Apple expects the new campus to accommodate 5,000 employees at first, though it will ultimately have a total capacity of 15,000.

Apple has also announced expansions in Seattle, San Diego, and Culver City, which each grow to have more than 1,000 employees apiece. Apple also plans to expand its operations in Pittsburgh, New York, and Boulder, Colorado, over the next three years.

The company said its newest data center would be located in Waukee, Iowa. It is also expanding its data centers in North Carolina, Arizona and Nevada.
