Top IPERS leaders leave organization after investigation

by Elise Mackanych

Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System (IPERS) CEO Greg Samorajski resigned on May 1, and the chief benefits officer, Steven Herbert, was fired on May 7, following misconduct investigations.

Both leaders had been suspended for five weeks prior to terminations, but spokespeople have declined to share details on complaints. IPERS’ fund and member’s benefit payments have not been affected by said misconduct.

IPERS attorney Elizabeth Hennessey will continue to serve as interim CEO until officials complete a search for a new CEO and chief benefit officer.
