The $8.6 billion University of Virginia Investment Management Co. posted a 12.4 percent return for fiscal year ending June 30, according to its annual report.
The endowment had an 11.4 percent policy benchmark for the fiscal year. Returns during other periods include 6 percent for three years, 10 percent for five years, 7.3 percent for 10 years and 11 percent for 20 years, according to the report. However, the endowment returned a –1.5 percent in the previous fiscal year.
The passive policy portfolio benchmark asset allocation is 60 percent equity, 30 percent fixed income and 10 percent real assets, according to the report.
As of June 30, the endowment’s portfolio allocations included 26.7 percent public equity, 19.6 percent long/short equity, 15.7 percent private equity, 14.5 percent marketable alternatives and credit, 11.4 percent fixed income and cash, 6.6 percent resources, and 5.5 percent real estate.
