Williams gets go-ahead for Leidy South Project in Pennsylvania

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has given The Williams Companies the green light to move forward with its Leidy South Project, a proposed expansion of the company’s existing energy infrastructure in Pennsylvania.

According to Williams, the project will help the existing Transco pipeline system transport 582,400 dekatherms per day, providing enough natural gas to power more than 2.5 million homes, and enabling power plants to convert from coal to cleaner-burning natural gas.

The Leidy South Project is designed to connect robust supplies of natural gas produced by Cabot Oil & Gas Corp. and Seneca Resources Company in northern and western Pennsylvania with growing demand centers along the Atlantic Seaboard in time for the 2021–2022 winter heating season.

Local distribution company UGI Utilities Inc. will be using its capacity to directly serve its customers in northeast Pennsylvania.
