The Macallan Fine and Rare 60-Year-Old 1926 became the most expensive bottle of wine or spirit ever auctioned, breaking records for a second time.
The bottle of rare whiskey sold for $1.9 million on Thursday, Oct. 24.
Last year, a same bottle from the same Macallan Cask 263 batch sold for $1.2 million at Christie’s in London.
Cask 263 was bottled in 1986 after maturing for six decades in European Oak at Macallan’s distillery near the River Spey in Scotland.
Cask 263 has produced six record-setting bottles, beginning in 1986 when one sold in New York for $6,411, setting the Guinness record for “The World’s Most Expensive Spirit,” reported CNN.
Overall, rare whiskey continued to outperform other luxury asset classes during the 12 months leading up to June, according to a Knight Frank report.
