The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) is planning to invest $906 million in U.S. infrastructure, allocating funds to 20 projects in 20 states.
The funding will go toward improving major highways, bridges, ports and railroads across the United States, and will be parsed out through the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) discretionary grant program, according to U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao.
INFRA discretionary grants help to create opportunities for all levels of government and the private sector to fund infrastructure, according to a June 18 statement by USDOT. INFRA advances a grant program established in the 2015 Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act. The program increases the impact of projects by leveraging federal grant funding and incentivizing project sponsors to pursue strategies such as public-private partnerships.
