U.S. energy storage gets second strongest quarter yet in Q2

Wood Mackenzie's quarterly report on the U.S. energy storage market found that in the second quarter 2020, residential storage had its best quarter ever in both megawatt and megawatt-hour terms. The front-of-the-meter market also had a strong quarter. The past quarter’s 168 megawatt total for storage deployed on both sides of the meter is the second-highest quarterly total ever seen, falling slightly behind fourth quarter 2019.

The strong performance of residential storage is especially notable, given that home batteries are almost always sold as an add-on to rooftop solar, and the leading rooftop solar installers took a hit on sales in the second quarter as face-to-face business ground to a halt in the United States due to the pandemic and economic impacts.
