Total global real estate AUM grows to $3.2 trillion in 2018

Total real estate assets under management (AUM) grew by 12 percent from $2.8 trillion in 2017 to $3.2 trillion in 2018, supported by the growth in AUM of the largest managers, according to the latest ANREV / INREV / NCREIF Fund Manager Survey.

The Blackstone Group made history by breaching the $200 billion mark for the very first time, reporting $230.6 billion in real estate AUM, an increase of 19 percent from $193.8 billion in 2017 and topping the overall ranking of total real estate AUM globally. The firm was followed by Brookfield Asset Management, which posted total real estate AUM of $187.3 billion, a surge of 20.5 percent from the previous year. In third position was PGIM with $168.9 billion of real estate AUM. Nuveen Real Estate and Hines conclude the quintet of managers with $124.6 billion and $119.4 billion of real estate AUM, respectively.
