Selina invests $150m into Mexico hotel pipeline

Community-focused lifestyle group Selina  has plans to develop approximately 8,000 beds across both hostels and hotels in Mexico over the next two years. The hotels and hostels will be in desirable Mexican destinations including San Miguel de Allende, Sayulita, San Cristóbal de las Casas and Mérida.

Despite the expansion being made by the firm, for full-year 2019, Mexico’s hotel industry reported negative performance, with a 2.6 percent decline in both occupancy and average daily rate resulting in a 5.1 percent decrease in revenue per available room compared to 2018, reported STR. But according to hotel media outlet Top Hotels News, Mexico’s hotel industry has 58 openings slated to bring 14,235 rooms. 2021 also looks busy, with 35 hotels and 10,759 rooms in the pipeline.
