RIAs are falling behind in alternative allocations

Wirehouses and broker/dealers are leading the way in the adoption of alternative investments for clients, as registered investment advisers (RIAs) are lagging, according to research by Alternative Investments Market Intelligence.

RIAs’ implied client allocation to alternatives is 0.8 percent, while wirehouse clients are leading with 3.8 percent in allocations, due to institutional infrastructure, technology support, access to research and specialized teams.
