The number of closed funds dedicated to the food and agriculture sector rose by 79 percent from 2018 to 2019, with an average annual increase of 36 percent over the past decade. The capital has been used to pursue farmland investments, which now account for $51.5 billion in assets under management invested in more than 50 million acres of global farmland.
Those numbers were gathered by a first-of-its-kind report titled Global AgInvesting Rankings & Trends Report 2019 that tracks and analyzes capital flows into the global food and ag sector. It highlights nearly 700 organizations that are investing in the food and ag sector with more than $131 billion in AUM in 2019.
The GAI report also revealed insights on drivers that are expected to continue to support increased capital flows into food and ag.
