Proptech founder discusses growing investors’ interest for technology for residential properties

There has been an accelerated shift in technology developed specifically for residential rental properties, according to John Helm, the founder and a current partner at proptech-focused venture capital firm RET Ventures, which focuses exclusively on technology for the rental housing and construction industries.

There is increasing investment from institutional firms in the single-family rental market, such as Lennar Corp., Allianz Real Estate and Centerbridge, which are responding to the major shifts in the single-family rental landscape. The market has been expanding rapidly; the occupancy rate was 95.3 percent in third quarter 2020, the highest since 1994. Homebuilder giants are betting that technology will be a huge differentiator as the market grows.
