Ørsted has agreed to sell a 50-percent ownership stake in its 1.3-gigawatt Hornsea 2 Offshore Wind Farm to a consortium consisting of AXA IM Alts and Crédit Agricole Assurances for £3 billion ($4.0 billion).
Hornsea 2, which is under construction off the U.K. coast, is expected to become the world’s largest offshore wind farm after it is commissioned later in 2022. Hornsea 2 will provide enough green electricity to power the equivalent of more than 1.3 million homes annually.
Once complete, it will bring Ørsted’s installed capacity in the United Kingdom to more than 6,300 megawatts, in line with the U.K. government’s objective of achieving 40 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
