NextDecade, Bechtel sign $12b EPC agreement for largest privately funded infra project in Texas

by Kali Persall

NextDecade has signed an $12 billion engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement with Bechtel for the Rio Grande Natural Gas Liquefaction Facility Project, the largest privately funded infrastructure project in the state of Texas.

International law firm King & Spalding advised Rio Grande LNG, a subsidiary of NextDecade Corp., on the EPC contract with Bechtel Energy, including the construction of three liquefaction units, for an aggregate nominal LNG production capacity of 17.6 million metric tonnes per annum.

On July 12, NextDecade, an LNG development company focused on export projects and associated pipelines in Texas, achieved financial close of $18.4 billion in project financing for the Rio Grande Project. Contemporaneously, NextDecade issued a final investment decision and full notice to proceed. NextDecade intends to develop the largest LNG export solution linking Permian Basin–associated gas with the global LNG market.
