MorningStar survey reveals investors struggle to define asset classes beyond commodities and cryptocurrencies

Of the nine asset classes investors were surveyed on, fewer than half of the investors felt they could even pick out the correct definition from a list for every asset (except the two most broadly known: commodities and cryptocurrencies), according to MorningStar. Despite an overall basic understanding of trendy asset classes, however, its research found investors are not overly keen on changing their investment in these different trendy assets.

The most common response across each class indicated that investors who did not already own the asset were not planning on changing that, and the second most common response pattern indicated investors who already owned the asset were not planning on increasing or decreasing their holdings — indicating that after entrance into ownership, these assets have some stickiness
