JP Morgan partners with TotalEnergies for methanol-fueled tankers

by Andrea Zander

JP Morgan has placed an order for two advanced dual-fuel methanol carriers with China’s Guangzhou Shipbuilding International (GSI).

The ships, which will be delivered in 2026, are backed by charter contracts with France’s TotalEnergies.

Methanol is increasingly being recognized as an alternative marine fuel, which is growing the interest by investors. The two additional ships, costing $50 million each, brings the total number of methanol dual-fuel MR tankers purchased by JP Morgan at GSI to four.
