by Andrea Zander

Grocery visits have come down from their pandemic peaks, but weekly foot traffic to the category remained elevated relative to 2019 – at least during the first half of third quarter 2022, according to data by Placer.ai.

Visits to grocery stores overall are down a bit from last year but are still tracking above pre-pandemic levels. During the week of Sept. 26, visits to grocery stores were down 3 percent year-over-year, but up 0.6 percent compared to 2019.

Food Lion, for instance, saw visits up more than 32 percent during third quarter 2022 compared to third quarter 2019. Likewise, Aldi and Trader Joe’s saw visits up 25.9 percent and 16.4 percent, respectively, during the same period.
