The Liv-ex 1000 index closed October on 356.62, down 1.2 percent on the previous month, marking the biggest monthly fall for the index so far this year. Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000 tracks the prices of the most sought-after wines in the market.
All the other Liv-ex indices also ended the month in negative territory, with the Liv-ex 50 — which tracks the price performance of the First Growths — falling the most (–1.6 percent).
Interestingly, the Champagne 50 was the only subindex within the Liv-ex 1000’s seven subindices to improve this month. It was up 1.9 percent, while all the others fell. (Italy remained steady, down just 0.1 percent.)
The biggest loser, however, was the Burgundy 150 (–2.2 percent). It has also been the worst-performing subindex so far this year, down 4.5 percent. By com
