Eolink’s 5MW floating offshore wind turbine system takes anchor out at sea

by Released

EOLINK aims to complete its final phase of the France-Atlantique project by installing a 5-megawatt (MW) floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT) in 2024.

The French engineering firm’s 5-megawatt wind turbine is a precommercial version of the more than 15-megawatt units EOLINK intends to install with its patented four-mast pyramid structure, which is 45 percent lighter compared with a single-turbine mast and allows 10 percent additional energy output by using longer turbine blades. The final investment decision, taken in November last year, was a decisive step for the subsea anchor system manufacturing and installation, as well as for the FOWT unit that is due to be towed to the site and commissioned in 2024.

The EOLINK triple anchoring system — which will see each of the three embedded anchors connected to a submerged buoy by three mooring lines, each one set with a tension of around 250/300 metric tons — will secure the innovative FOWT structure. Installation was
