Duke Energy Florida plans $1b solar expansion in Florida

Duke Energy Florida is planning to invest $1 billion to construct or acquire 700 megawatts of solar power facilities in Florida, from 2018 through 2022.

The company has broken ground on two new solar sites this year, which include the 74.5-megawatt Duette Solar Power Plant, which will be built on 520 acres in Manatee County, and the 74.9-megawatt Charlie Creek Solar Power Plant, which will be built on 610 acres in Hardee County, Fla.

Both plants are expected to reach completion by the end of 2021.

Duke Energy also announced it will be bringing two additional solar plants online in the spring. These include the 74.9-megawatt Twin Rivers Solar Power Plant, located in Hamilton County, and the 74.9-megawatt Santa Fe Solar Power Plant, located in Columbia County.
