Despite recent gains, NYC infrastructure needs major investment

Over the past five years, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and the NYC Council have significantly increased four-year capital funding, from $26.7 billion in fiscal year 2015 to an unprecedented $58.2 billion in fiscal year 2020, adjusted for inflation, according to a report by Center for an Urban Future.

The analysis shows in five years the problems have actually gotten worse, and that new stressors, such as climate change, have only added to the overall price tag to bring the city’s core infrastructure to a state of good repair.
