Colorado groups sign $24.8m contract to construct government building

by Released

The Aspen City Council and Shaw Construction have signed a $24.8 million contract to build a 37,500-square-foot municipal government building on Rio Grande Place in the city of Aspen, Colo.

The project, which was green-lighted by voters in November 2018, would also include the renovation of an adjacent building, lifting the guaranteed maximum price to $34.2 million, according to media outlets.

Upon completion, the new building would house offices for departments operating within the city, including environmental health, parking, special events, transportation and IT. It also could house the Capital Asset Department and the Aspen-Pitkin County Housing Authority, and the Aspen Chamber Resort Association. A restaurant is being considered for the space, as well.
