The black population — starved for investment capital and suffering from a disproportionate rate of financial illiteracy — is getting a boost from black activists who are launching fintech initiatives to increase access to banking services and investment dollars.
John Hope Bryant, founder and CEO of Operation HOPE, is working in tandem with Shopify with a goal of creating 1 million new black businesses in the United States over the next 10 years, while rapper Michael “Killer Mike” Render is helping build a digital banking platform designed for black and Latinx customers.
