California operator contracts renewable energy to power fast-charging network

California-based EVCS, one of the largest fast-charger operators on the West Coast, has contracted 100 percent renewable energy to power its entire fast-charging network.

EVCS has been contracted to install more than 1,000 fast charging stations on the West Coast, home to about 50 percent of all EVs in the United States.

EVCS is focused on purchasing a blend of wind and solar energy through its electricity suppliers and REC partners in California, and has plans to grow this initiative further.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, passenger cars and light-duty vehicles make up nearly 28 percent of all greenhouse-gas emissions in the United States, making them the country’s largest contributor to greenhouse-gas emissions.
