Nuclear power gains momentum as Portland fund posts 95% returns

As the future of global power generation remains uncertain, the sector mulls which form of energy production can meet the steadily increasing demand as well as satisfy sustainability guidelines. Nuclear power is gaining attention as a solution. The Portland Replacement of Fossil Fuels Alternative Fund reflects this viability, as it has returned more than 95 percent in both its A and F series.

Launched in 2023 by Portland Investment Counsel with the future of the energy transition in mind, the fund invests in various facets of the nuclear supply chain, including uranium mining, fuel processing, plant construction, spent fuel storage and recycling and utilities. The surge in AI investment has advanced the development of nuclear technology, but AI was not core to the investment goals of the fund, according to Dragos Bercebel, CIO and portfolio manager at Portland.
