The number of hyperscale data centers has tripled in the past six years, with Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific leading in growth rates, new research from Synergy Research Group shows.
The number of large data centers operated by hyperscale providers — the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, Google and IBM — hit 504 at the end of the third quarter of this year, up from 430 in January. In addition, there are 151 more in various development stages, signalling that there is “no end in sight to the data center building boom,” noted John Dinsdale, a chief analyst and research director at Synergy.
