In July, tech giant Google announced plans to invest $25 billion in data center and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across the PJM electric grid during the next two years, according to CNBC.
PJM is the biggest electric grid in the United States, covering 13 states across the mid-Atlantic and parts of the Midwest and South, including the world’s largest data center market in Northern Virginia.
The investment pledge comes on the heels of Google announcing plans to spend $3 billion to modernize two hydropower plants in Pennsylvania. This was part of a broader first-of-its-kind Hydro Framework Agreement (HFA) Google signed with Brookfield Asset Management in July to deliver up to 3,000 megawatts of carbon-free hydroelectric capacity across the United States.
