Goldman Sachs Asset Management launches biomethane business in Europe

Goldman Sachs Asset Management has established Verdalia Bioenergy, a new business focused on developing, acquiring, building and operating biomethane plants across Europe.

The investment, made through the firm’s infrastructure-investing business, aims to add significant biomethane production capacity in Europe, contributing to the country’s decarbonization and energy-security agenda.

Verdalia Bioenergy will invest in both early-stage development projects and larger operational assets. The company already has signed its first agreement to purchase a portfolio of biomethane projects in mid-stage development in Spain, with a total capacity of 150 gigawatt hours per year. The company plans to deploy more than €1 billion ($1.08 billion) throughout the next four years.
