Colorado calls for revamp of statewide transport system in new EV plan

The Colorado Energy Office (CEO) has released a new electric vehicle (EV) plan for Colorado’s transportation system, calling for a large-scale transition to zero-emission vehicles.

The plan outlines a long-term goal of 100 percent of light-duty vehicles being electric and 100 percent of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles being zero emission.

In 2018, CEO released its first EV plan, which established a target of 940,000 EVs by 2030 and outlined goals, actions and strategies to develop fast-charging EV infrastructure across the state. Since then, the state contracted ChargePoint to build out fast-charging stations at 33 sites along Colorado’s major transportation corridors; adopted a zero-emission vehicle standard; invested in the installation of 351 EV chargers across Colorado; and significantly increased the number of EVs registered in Colorado from 11,238 in 2017 to more than 24,000 in 2019.
