Chicago to receive $1.2b for infrastructure improvements

Chicago, the third-largest city in the U.S., is in line for a $1.2 billion capital influx for road improvement and transit infrastructure projects, according to a local news source, Neighbor Newspapers, Inc.

Of this, $600 million will be dedicated to a Kennedy Expressway project, $400 million to the Chicago Regional Environmental and Transportation Efficiency (CREATE), $140 million to the Green and Blue lines of the CTA, and $90 million to the circle intersection at Stoney Island Ave. and 95th St.

The projects will be funded by state and local taxpayers, with the majority of funds coming from Illinois’ $45 billion infrastructure plan, signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker in June.
