California’s last nuclear plant to remain online

California’s last operating nuclear plant, Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, which was scheduled to close by 2025, could remain online, led by Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, reported the Associated Press.

The Diablo Canyon Power Plant is an electricity-generating nuclear power plant near Avila Beach in San Luis Obispo County, Calif. Since the permanent shutdown of the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station in 2013, Diablo Canyon has been the only operational nuclear plant, and the largest single power station, in California. The plant on the coast midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco produces 9 percent of the electricity for California’s nearly 40 million residents.
