by Andrea Zander

German-company Raisin GmbH, a pan-European fintech marketplace for savings and investment products, has plans to expand into the United States.

PayPal, Index Ventures, Ribbit Capital and Thrive Capital back the company.

Raisin has hired Paul Knodel as U.S. CEO. prior to joining Raisin, he held executive and senior management positions at Citigroup and Merrill Lynch, as well as TD Ameritrade, E-Trade and robo-advisor Wealthfront.

Founded in Berlin in 2013, Raisin has brokered €13 billion ($14.5 billion) in deposits for banks that include Germany’s Commerzbank and N26, and recently launched an investment fund product in partnership with Vanguard.
