Slowing down

A total of 38 new investment funds were launched during second quarter 2021, the lowest number of fund launchings since third quarter 2020 when 36 funds were launched. The new investment funds are seeking to raise an aggregate of approximately $46.6 billion, close to the first quarter fundraising target of $48.2 billion, despite significantly fewer funds launched (67 funds were launched in first quarter 2021).

The largest fund to launch in second quarter was Brookfield’s Brookfield Strategic Real Estate Partners IV, seeking to raise approximately $17 billion. The fund will target investment opportunities in property assets and real estate operating companies in North America, Brazil, Europe and Australia. BSREP IV will be the firm’s largest real estate fund to date, surpassing the predecessor fund’s $15 billion.
