30’s are the new 40’s: 39 new investment funds were launched during second quarter 2017

A total of 39 new investment funds were launched during second quarter 2017, bringing the midyear total to 86 new funds. As a group, the second quarter funds are seeking to raise approximately $32.3 billion.

The number of funds launched went down into the 30’s after six consecutive quarters of forty-plus funds launched per quarter. Third quarter 2015 was the last time we saw this dip, launching only 33 funds.

The global strategy lead the way for the geographic focus during second quarter with a targeted fundraising volume of $11.4 billion as well as holding the largest fund launched in the second quarter 2017.
