U.S. consumers to keep to holiday budgets and spending

Shoppers will keep their holiday budgets intact this year, according to JLL’s Retail Holiday Survey 2022.

Inflation will have a deeper impact on how consumers with modest incomes shop for the holidays. About 49.7 percent of consumers earning less than $50,000 plan to significantly cut their budgets, while only about 24 percent of those earning $150,000 will do the same.

In-store shopping regains the No. 1 spot after two years. More than 63 percent of JLL”s survey respondents plan to do at least some of their shopping in store this year — up from 58 percent in the previous year.

But consumers plan to shop deal days from home rather than in stores. Black Friday will be the most popular deal day for shopping in store, with 39.7 percent of respondents planning to shop in person. However, even more plan to shop Black Friday online — 54.2 percent.
