Polish retail market remains strong in 2017

by Andrea Zander

Total retail stock in Poland currently totals 149 million square feet of gross leasable area (GLA), the majority of which consists of shopping centers — 408 such projects account for nearly 105 million square feet. The remaining formats include retail parks and stand-alone warehouses, 40.9 million square feet; and outlet centers, 2.6 million square feet.

“During 2017, the retail market grew by 5 million square feet of modern retail space in all formats. Shopping centers accounted for 3.7 million square feet, which is a result comparable to 2016s volume,” said Anna Wysocka, head of retail agency, JLL. “In terms of location, the new shopping center space delivered in 2017 was concentrated to a large degree in top tier agglomerations. This trend will very likely continue, as more than 70 percent of emerging shopping center stock will be located in major metropolitan areas.”
