Limited single-family home supply spurs increased prices

Demand for single-family homes has outpaced the supply of homes for sale, and pandemic-related labor and material shortages are limiting new construction. As a result of this historic undersupply of homes, Amherst expects another strong year for the housing industry, according to The Amherst Group 2022 Market Outlook.

Demographic trends drive the single-family rental demand. As millennials (age 25 to 40) look for larger, more private homes, Amherst anticipates strong demand for single-family rentals and multifamily homes in the southern United States, following long-term demographic trends.
