ICSC: Wellness companies add vitality to tenant mix

Post-pandemic, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) advises landlords to consider untap the opportunities in wellness sector.

The ICSC survey found 39 percent of U.S. adults visited wellness tenants in shopping centers during the past year. They averaged 12 trips to wellness services in shopping centers during this period — a figure that rises to 31 trips excluding those who made no trips. Cost and proximity were the top motivating factors for choosing a facility.

Amid all of this, the client base for wellness companies remains largely unshaken in its loyalty even with the current uncertainty. Among adults, 56 percent say they will use wellness services the same or more than before, or will start using them for the first time, according to an ICSC COVID-19 survey (conducted by Engine Insights on its behalf from May 15 to May 17).
