The size of the professionally managed global real estate investment market decreased by 4.1 percent to $13.3 trillion in 2022 from $13.9 trillion in 2021, according to MSCI. The market declined considerably compared with 2021, when it grew by 8.1 percent relative to 2020.
This analysis includes 37 markets — three from the Americas, 23 from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and 11 from Asia Pacific (APAC). The Americas contributed to 43.9 percent of the global market size in 2022, EMEA 30.4 percent and APAC 25.7 percent.
The market size of the Americas grew by 0.6 percent to $5.9 trillion in 2022, while the EMEA market size declined by 9.8 percent to $4.1 trillion and the APAC market size fell by 4.6 percent to $3.4 trillion. The market size in EMEA and APAC was negatively impacted by the strengthening of the U.S. dollar against respective local currencies.
