European property investment volume at six-year low

by Andrea Zander

European commercial real estate investment transactions fell to the lowest level in six years in the first quarter of 2019, according to Real Capital Analytics (RCA).

Investment deals totaled €44.5 billion ($49.87 billion) between January and March, down 32 percent from the same quarter of last year and at the lowest level since 2013.

In the first quarter of 2019, investors spent €2 billion ($2.4 billion) more on apartments than they did on retail properties. The change in relative investor appetites registered in annual volumes for the first time in 2018. Offices remain the most popular asset class in Europe.
