Asia Pacific cities lead the way for technology, transparency and transformation

Asia Pacific is home to 19 of the top 20 cities in JLL’s latest City Momentum Index as urban growth continues to shift toward the region, with Indian and Chinese cities dominating the rankings. Only one city outside of the region — Nairobi, Kenya — is in the global Top 20, but even in Nairobi there is a strong Asian influence, with significant investment from China.

A common theme this year is that many of the top performing cities have strong links to the technology and innovation sector. The technology sector is a key driver of both real estate and economic momentum, and is propelled not only by the large dominant tech firms but also by a robust startup culture. Bengaluru, India; Hyderabad, India; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; Shenzhen, China; and Nairobi have all cultivated a thriving startup culture, which has helped to push them up the rankings.
