The University of Virginia Investment Management Company (UVIMCO) has recorded a 5.3 percent return for the fiscal year ending June 30, exceeding the policy portfolio return of 3.3 percent.
According to a recently-released annual report, in real assets, the blended MSCI Real Estate Index saw a 22 percent decline during the first quarter of 2020, finishing the year at -6.3 percent. UVIMCO said global real estate equities performed strongly through mid-February, but lodging, retail, office, and residential REITs were hit the hardest as the pandemic continued.
Over the ten-year period, the long-term pool (which recorded the 5.3 percent return) generated a 10.1 percent return, exceeding both the 8.2 percent return for the policy portfolio and the University’s inflation-adjusted spending rate.
