U.S. surpasses 100GW of solar photovoltaic capacity

by Kali Persall

The United States has surpassed 100 gigawatts of solar photovoltaic capacity, according to the latest U.S. Solar Market Insight report, released by the Solar Energy Industries Association and Wood Mackenzie.

As reported by CNBC, America’s solar industry installed more than 5 gigawatts of photovoltaic capacity in the first three months of 2021, a new first-quarter record. This is 46 percent higher than the first quarter in 2020.

The report notes that solar accounted for 58 percent of all new electricity-generating capacity added in the United States during the first quarter. Wind was responsible for most of the remainder of the energy mix.
