by Jody Barhanovich

The $154 billion Teacher Retirement System of Texas has committed $150 million to a natural resources fund, according to Rob Maxwell, investments communications specialist for the retirement system.

The fund, Paine Schwartz Food Chain Fund V, is managed by Paine Schwartz Partners, according to Texas TRS. It is the fifth fund in the food chain series. The fund will invest across the food and agriculture business value chain, in addition to seeds and high-value specialty crops. The fund will also seek to make non-control investments in technology-oriented businesses involved in biotechnology, biosciences and seed technology, according to agri investor.

The commitment was made through Texas TRS’ Energy, Natural Resources and Infrastructure portfolio.
