Data centers are essential in the growth of the new economy, as well as to support the technology energy companies trying to reduce carbon emissions rely on. But data centers also use large amounts of power to run and to cool the servers and equipment. The sector, though, has made great strides forward in the ability to build and operate data centers more sustainably, according to a report by Thomas Liu, partner and head of Greater China and Asia data centres for Actis, and James Magor, director of sustainability for the firm. The report, published in the November issue of Institutional Real Estate Asia Pacific, contends, “… data centres by their very nature support the global low-carbon transition.
