OP&F lowers assumed investment rate of return to 8%

The $15.34 billion Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund Board of Trustees approved changing the system’s assumed investment rate of return, lowering it to 8 percent from 8.25 percent at its Oct. 25 meeting. OP&F’s independent actuaries recommended the change as part of a regularly scheduled five-year review of the actuarial assumptions.

Recent investment returns show that OP&F has met its previous assumption. In 2016, OP&F’s net investment returns were 10.9 percent. OP&F’s annualized investment returns for the five-year period ending December 2016 were 10.09 percent, while annualized returns for the 30-year period ending December 2016 were 8.67 percent.
